March Moon Paintings
Here’s the next set of moon paintings I’ve created for March:
At the time of the full moon on March 7 (also my birthday), I felt like I had found some balance in my life, and I took a breath there for a short time. But sure enough as the new moon energy came back, I think I toppled a bit. By the new moon on March 21st, I had started to take aim…do you see the new moon in the bow of the arrow?
One target I won’t be hitting is the24 moon paintings I thought I’d create this year (2 per month). I’ve done six moon paintings for the first three months and well, I enjoyed creating them! I practiced using gaouche—which is a kind of watercolor paint, but opaque—and I’m happy with them all for the most part.
But…I don’t know. Here at the end of this first quarter of the year I’m feeling rebellious I guess. I can’t remember why I even wanted to make a 12 month commitment to this project back in January! And now I resent myself for doing it. Why force anything? So I’m doing myself a favor and calling this project off.
Instead, I’m happily working in my sketchbook every day and I’m continuing with goauche painting too. I’m also filling several handmade books—including some made with old loose pieces of art I created in the past that need their own containers.
Filling handmade books has turned out to become quite a preoccupation (which also involved a complete reorganization of my studio)—and the perfect project for the moment. As it turns out, I need some time to reflect on my art journey. Where I’ve been and where I want to go next. A kind of decluttering of not only studio, but mind and spirit.
I’ll report back in more detail next week—and hopefully I’ll have lots of work to show you. Until then, I hope you’ll make it a priority to work on your creative projects that most need your attention too.
